No one tells you before you have kids that every SINGLE DAY, there will be clothing, toys, misc. items; that they will out grow. It is a constant cycle of moving stuff around. New clothes & shoes put away in drawers and closets. Clothes that are to small stacked in a pile by bedroom door, then moved to a Rubbermaid bin in the attic, then when the bin is full moved downstairs closer to the door. Then when there is a pile so high you can't maneuver around them, you finally load them in your car and drive around with them in the back until you finally remember to stop and drop them off at a local organization.
Today is the day that I am dropping off our purge of outdated holiday decorations, 4 garbage bags of clothing, out grown basketball shoes and cleats, and misc. items that NO ONE has used in years. We are lucky to have a wonderful non-profit organization in the next town called KIDS (kids in distress services). I take many of our clothing donations there thru out the year and when I drop off there I know that the clothes I painstakingly took care of will go to children and adults that will use and appreciate them. The other items I am taking to Salvation Army. I feel confident that the items I am donating (nothing is junky or dirty or broken), can be sold and the store employees workers; so there is some since that our unwanted/needed STUFF is helping the economy is some way.
Our church has a great community Garage Sale in July, so if I have a load in the summer I absolutely take it out there and all proceeds from the sales go to a local shelter that is AMAZING.
All in all, this part-time job of continually moving "stuff" around helps so many organizations and individuals that I guess it isn't that bad. And if we want to really to reflect on the act of getting rid of "stuff"; then I would say it makes me feel good and organized...... at least until tomorrow!!!
