Yesterday was the last day of the 7th Grade Basketball Season. It was an edge of your seat, fast paced game. I love basketball for that reason, plus it is inside where it is warm and cozy on a cold January day. It wasn't been a winning season, but yesterday's game was a win in OT! It was a win against the cross town rival St. Clair. Marine City had lost to them the last 2 times they met up. It was a back and forth game that was tied at the buzzer and then went into overtime. Then Parker fouled and went to the line for the last of many times this game and he was cool as could be. Both shots swooshed thru the hole and then the team was in the lead.
There were several more plays (who knew 4 minutes of OT could last for what seems like hours....); with Parker rocketing the ball down the court to his pal and teammate Grant who then flipped it through the hole. The game ended with a SC air ball! And the crowd went wild - it was so great and so fun.
Aaron and I could not be more proud of how Parker played all season. He always gives 110% whether they are down 20 pts. or in a winning position. He challenges his teammates and himself at every practice and game. He never caves under pressure, whether it is at the free throw line or coming is in the last innings of the baseball game to pitch the team out of a tough game.
His character and athleticism were never more evident to me when he decided to run Cross County in 6th grade. The first meet was on a 90 degree Friday afternoon at 4pm!! He ran against boys from many other schools and crossed the finish line at the front of the pack. When he crossed the line exhausted beyond words, I was full of tears of overwhelming joy.
I have been a sport's mom now for 8 years (since T-ball) and in those 8 years I have amassed endless stories and memories. I can't tell you the win / loss records, but I can tell you, I am the most proud of his character, will, determination and desire.
There are many other great things that come with being a sports mom (other mom friends for one), but those are tales for another day.
