Today starts the 6th week of Quarantine. The end of last week the School District handed out workbooks for the students and starting today, teachers will be sending out assignments and be available for questions, etc. My kids aren't thrilled, but I know that many families/children will be excited to to a little school work again.
Work has not changed for me. But what has changed is the time our family has. As I worked outside this weekend (shoveling, using wheel barrow, racking sticks, etc.), I thought about how much time there is in a weekend and how the days feel long and accomplished. I don't really miss the places that used to be on the weekends. I wish I had the option to go, but not having the obligation has created a little less stress and anxiety for sure.
Aaron is working every other day, so on his days off; he and Parker are tackling projects and I see Parker learning things that in days prior to the Quarantine he didn't have time to really learn. He helped Aaron for 8 straight hours dig in a trench in our front yard; never complained and actually seemed to like figuring it all out. I see this time away from the structure of school and sports as an opportunity to really work on the things you enjoy and to have the opportunity to learn new things (even if you don't love them).
I know that when restrictions are lifted, many things are going to be different. Stores will likely leave plexiglass shields up. Visits to Doctor/Dentist will be more cautious. Very large events may never happen again or HS football will be family only and sit 6 seats apart!! Wiping down gas pump handle, wearing masks, etc. I also think that when restrictions are lifted, people priorities will change; some by choice and some because things are just going to be different. It will be so interesting to see how it all plays out. Until then, I am keeping positive and enjoying the free weekends and nights (because though I love watching my kids play sports, running out the door in the dark on a Saturday morning, is not my favorite - oh I am such a bad mom for writing that!) .
