President's Day Weekend 2019

We didn't go to Iowa for Thanksgiving or Christmas this year.   So I planned a trip for all of us to meet at a 1/2 point.  By all I mean us 4 from Michigan, Don & Marilyn and Steph, Crock, Cooper, Carson and Grandma Jenny.    I found a resort with pool and waterpark in Sheridan, IL; called Fox River Resort.     I reserved 2 villas (nice 2 bedroom, full kitchen rooms) and one standard room.   It was alittle over 5 1/2 hour drive for us and we got there first and checked out the resort (even stumbled on a waterfall).   It would be a very fun get away for the summer, as it has many outside activities.    We found a great mom and pop Pizzeria for a late lunch and it was yummy and authentic!

Don & Marilyn got there next and we enjoyed nice conversation, catching up since we hadn't seen them since last January (when we met in Grand Rapids for the Globetrotter game).    We also gave them the rest of their Christmas presents!

Close to 8pm the rest of the gang arrived and it was great to see them!   We also gave them the rest of their Christmas presents and we may have gotten a few as well -  along with some yummy jam that Jenny made and brought for us!

Aaron cooked breakfast for everyone and after everyone's bellys were full we packed up for the Pirates Cay WaterPark.      It was very, very busy!  But the kids had fun and were able to hang out and that is what it was all about!      There wasn't much to eat around the resort, so for lunch we drive to the nearest town and found a great dinner (50's themed)!    It takes a long time for 11 people to order and eat!!!
The kids went to the large indoor pool and back to the water park in the afternoon!     Parker, Cooper and Aaron did more exploring outside and walked over the resort.    We all gathered back at the Villas and then all the kids went back out exploring and came back with 50+ golf balls that they had found.  They washed them in the jacuzzi tub and had lots of laughs!    After dinner, leftovers, snack, take out from the Pizzeria;  Cooper, Parker, REese, Steph, Jenny and Maryilyn went back to the waterpark,   I stayed and played Uno with Carson, Crock and Don!

The weather was looking pretty snowy for the morning from Iowa to Michigan, so we all decided to head out as soon as we woke up, to try to get ahead of it.    We were fortunate to not hit the bad weather until the west side of Michigan and the lake effort snow!    Aaron drove slow and cautious and we got thru it and had dry roads from Kalamazoo until we got home.   (The snow storm hit us at 7pm Sunday night, and it accumulated to 5 inches FAST).

It was a nice weekend to catch up and hang out.  But, Aaron does not want to drive in the winter anymore.   So maybe I will find a place to meet 1/2 way in the Summer!

Almost June

The weeks in this Quarantined state - fly by fast.  Walk, work, cook, clean, repeat.   Recently though we have been able to add in a few baseball/softball practices, Parker started to work a bit cutting grass, Reese has had a few play dates.  Things are definitely different in the world, but we manage to fill each day and be grateful.  For the most part the yard work is tip top and the dandelions are already gone.  In May the trees filled out and the robins eggs hatched.  Now comes the mosquitos ( just reminded me - I need to call to have them spray).    A few house projects- my dad came and hung a new light in the upstairs bath,  I painted dining table and this weekend, want to finish the stairs and upstairs hall.  Fishing fills the weekend for the guys - catch fish, clean fish, clean & maintain equipment.   So grateful for a freezer full of fish and meat.  A few other points that I don't want to forget...

14

Happy Birthday Parker!  14 has been your sports number forever and now you are 14!   This morning you are fishing with your friends, no place you would rather be.  I am so proud of how you have handled the COVID quarantine; you get up every morning to help dad, exercise, hunt or fish.  You spend almost the entire day outside working on your fort or hanging in the barn.  You have enjoyed making dinner; becoming quite good at cooking fish, potatoes, chicken!     You even became entreprenuerial, starting a tackle making business with a friend.   You spend time each day tying lures and packaging them up to sell.   I haven't heard you complain once in 7 weeks; I feel like this downtime has been good for you.  We have a long summer ahead of us and I know there will be days that aren't fun or perfect; but keep up your positive attitude and you will make it thru and before you know it; you will be in High School. I am ...

January is half over

January 2019 is half over and still no snow here is ol' Michigan.  I am actually getting used to it and if we went the whole winter without it, I wouldn't mind really.    We started a new series of lessons at Sunday School yesterday called Snowflakes - discussing their Beauty, Uniqueness, Size.  The children cut out lots of snowflakes using coffee filters and q-tips (thanks Pinterest).  So, though it doesn't look like winter outside the church basement is starting to look like a winter wonderland. Last week was the first week back to school after Christmas break and it was a very busy week and flew by. Most days and weeks do around here.   After school each day there were basketball games and practices,   Baseball and softball practices.     We enjoyed a family day on Saturday watching Reese play in the morning, then we went out for breakfast/ lunch and then watched Parker play at St. Clair County Community College....
